Matariki at Hunters Plaza ✨

Celebrating Matariki at Hunters Plaza ✨

For the very first time in 2025, Hunters Plaza proudly celebrated Matariki — the Māori New Year — with our local community. It was a special moment for us to honour this important cultural event and create space for reflection, learning, and connection.

🌌 A Meaningful First for Our Centre
This year marked our first ever Matariki celebration at the Plaza, and we were thrilled to bring the spirit of Matariki to life through a beautifully designed space at the heart of our centre. Our stunning Matariki-themed backdrop created a peaceful and reflective setting where visitors could pause, take photos, and take in the significance of this special time of year.

📚 Learn & Discover
Alongside the display, we hosted a series of informative stands that shared the history, meaning, and traditions behind Matariki. From the story of the stars to the values of remembrance, celebration, and planning for the future, these stands helped deepen understanding and appreciation of the Māori New Year for all ages.

🤝 A Time to Come Together
Matariki is all about bringing people together — and it was heartwarming to see families, friends, and tamariki engaging with the displays, learning new things, and sharing in the festive atmosphere.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first-ever Matariki celebration. We look forward to making this a cherished annual tradition at Hunters Plaza — a time to honour the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead with hope. 🌟
